Hoopla! Bracelet

August 16 - 10am to 4 pm

This piece is a simple design of forged silver rings.We will use a technique called 'stick soldering' to join the links and forge them lightly for a sparkly relaxed everyday bracelet.You choose the size of the links by choosing your own dowels. Photo courtesy of Ornamentea.


The Cool Jade Ring

August 30 10am-5pm
Ornamentea

This class is a bezel class with a twist. The Jade donut is floated on a forged ring, and the shank is ornamented by hammering it with a textured hammer. It makes a contemporary design that is sure to capture the imagination. Photo courtesy of Ornamentea.


Roman Chain Bracelet with Beads

August 8th - 10 am to 3 pm
Ornamentea

This class teaches the basic fused link chain, and we will make a simple woven silver bracelet ornamented with colorful beads to match the season.It is a classic look, and an easy introduction to the various lovely chains made with pure silver and a creme brulee torch. The Elaine Ray Ring

September 27th - 10 am thru 5 pm
Ornamentea

This class cover quite a few techniques.First we will use a great bit of art made by local ceramic artist Elaine Ray to make the cabochon of a big bold and earthy ring design.The ring shank will be layered silver and copper, sized to your hand and stamped with steel stamping tools.We will learn about stone setting, ring sizing, soldering and stamping, all in one very busy afternoon.Bring your lunch and some Xanex. Beach Retreat: Enamel on Silver

October 24, 25 & 26
The Sunset Inn

This is a beach workshop at the lovely Sunset Beach Inn. We will spend a breezy day in the sunroom of the Sunset Inn learning how to enamel on silver, and have the evenings to eat seafood in Calabash. The focus of the class will be making a fused silver pendant using the cloisonne technique. The Inn will supply rooms (very nice), breakfast and lunch, and I'll supply the materials. $364

The Hoopla Necklace

October 18th 10:00 - 4:00

This class will make a big linked chain with forged circular links and large beads. You can use this chain as a bracelet, necklace or a belt. This project focuses on the technique of 'stick soldering', which is using wire solder for a faster assembly, and is suitable for jewelry production.


The Applique Pendant

October 31 10:00 - 4:00
Ornamentea

This class is an introduction to the basic metalsmithing technique of 'sweat soldering' or applique.We will saw and pierce sheet silver and solder it to a backing sheet of silver.It is possible to texture the various levels of the pendant with stamping tools or texturing tools to add depth and interest.The final pendant will be hung on leather, for a casual look, or you can dress it up with your own simple chain.

Scrap Silver Bracelet

Have you been wondering how to reuse your scrap silver?In this class we will melt your fine silver scrap and make a great bracelet.We will learn about melting silver on charcoal, forging out sheet using polished hammers and stamping simple primitive designs using homemade steel stamping tools.You can turn your trash into cash (OK, so maybe silver isn't exactly trash, but I couldn't resist).
